Biography: Agassiz rock is near Union Point, an overlook on the old Four Mile trail. Louis Agassiz (1807-73) was a Zurich physician who emigrated to the US in 1846 and became a professor of geology and zoology at Harvard. Watkins photographed Mr. Agassiz and may have heard him lecture in San Francisco in 1870.
